Ash's Japanese Maple Nursery
Nestled in 11 acres of a southern pine and hardwood forest, Ash's Japanese Maple Nursery contains over 80 varieties of Japanese Maples from 2-30 years old. The nursery resembles a botanical garden with its meandering grass paths and rows of trees. Sections of the Nursery are in high forest shade for a pleasant walk in the summer months though other sections are in full sun. The Nursery's specialty is the styling or shaping of dissectum or lace leaf maples into artistic bonsai styles from 3-8 feet high and 10 feet across. Canetuck Community Center
The Canetuck Community Center, formerly the Canetuck Rosenwald school, was constructed as a two-teacher Rosenwald school in western Pender County, NC. It opened in 1922 and was purchased back by the community after the school’s closure in 1958. In 2009 there was a complete exterior restoration of the building, ensuring that this important building can be used for years to come making it one of the oldest standing Rosenwald Schools left standing in the state. Courthouse Square has been a popular backdrop for many movies and television productions. The Gazebo that sits on the Courthouse Square lawn is a known memorable piece of the community. The gazebo that sits there was used in the movie "My Date with an Angel", a 1987 American romantic fantasy and comedy film.
Dawson's Creek
Dawson's Creek was often filmed at the south end of Topsail Beach. The TV show aired from 1998 to 2003. Starring James Van Der Beek as Dawson, Katie Holmes as Joey, Michelle Williams as Jen, Joshua Jackson as Pacey, Mary Beth Peil as Evelyn, Kerr Smith as Jack. Producers of the show donated money to the Karen Beasley Turtle Rescue Rehabilitation Center, located on Topsail Beach, and promised not to trample on any endangered turtle nest with eggs while filming.

Harbour Village Marina is a private marina located on the Intracoastal Waterway at mile marker #267, behind Topsail Island. (N34'23.173, W77'38.251) The marina offers its members the use of a boat ramp, free parking, a picnic area, and floating dock facilities. These facilities are for the use of members or guests accompanied by members, only. The marina lounge is handicap accessible and offers both gas and diesel fuels, showers, lounge, 30/50 amp power connections, and pump-out services. Holly Shelter Game Land
Holly Shelter Game Land consists of 75,120 acres of land. Primary hunting species are: deer, bear, turkey, fox, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, quail, dove and waterfowl. Primary fish species are: catfish, largemouth bass and sunfish. Camping allowed in designated areas only. Featured on the MST in Seg. 15 located at https://mountainstoseatrail.org/segment/15/. Walking and Hiking are allowed year round but the gates are open sporadically depending on local state wildlife representatives. Gates stay open during the hunting season and regulations vary. Vehicles are allowed to drive the designated roads during hunting season and if they gates are open but be aware of time constraints. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission may close the gates as they see fit depending on conditions or maintenance. If you walk or hike during hunting season we highly recommend the use of bright colored clothing and emphasize being aware of your surroundings. Moores Creek National Battlefield
Site of one of the first battles in the South of the Revolutionary War and the first patriot victory of the war. Throughout the park, remnants remain of the 1776 road traveled by patriot and loyalist forces. A .7-mile trail with wayside exhibits leads through the battlefield and across Moores Creek. The historic bridge site is located along the trail. The park offers a visitor center with exhibits, lighted troop movement maps and film, a .3 mile colonial forest trail, and a picnic area. Mountains To Sea Trail
The MST traverses Pender County, through the Holly Shelter Game Lands, winding through neighborhoods in Surf City and along the shoreline into Onslow County’s North Topsail Beach. Segment 14, Land of History, begins at Singletary Lake State Park in Bladen County and ends at Holly Shelter Gamelands. Osgood Canal Greenway and Urban Trail is a 2.2 mile loop of asphalt and concrete walking trails in and around the central portion of the town limits. Patriots Hall is on the grounds of Moores Creek National Battlefield. It is a beautiful, newly renovated meeting hall perfect for specials events, reunions and weddings. The capacity is 130 people max. Renters have access to up to 20 tables and 120 chairs. There are restrooms available. Pender County Tourism announces a Blueberry Trail created to lead you to fresh blueberries, blueberry fields, downtown shops, eateries, history, and more. July is National Blueberry Month and Pender County is home to many blueberry farms, making us one of the largest growing locations for blueberry producers.
Pender County Tourism created a new trail that highlights fresh blueberries, points of interest to Pender County's blueberry culture, and places to shop for fantastic Blueberry merchandise, and homemade favorites. Pender County is home to everything blueberry, Annually, during the blueberry season, typically from May to July, Pender County produces millions of berries that are sold to businesses, residents, and visitors by the pints, pounds, or flats.
Pender County and the Town of Burgaw are home to the North Carolina Blueberry Festival, founded in 2003 and held annually the third weekend in June. The festival is a premier event for Pender County and the Town of Burgaw, attracting more than 50,000 visitors. In addition to celebrating our Blueberry Heritage, the festival hosts the Annual Blueberry Pancake Breakfast each February, there is the NC Blueberry Scholarship Pageant, and the Annual New Year’s Eve Blueberry Drop. Special thanks to all Town of Burgaw downtown merchants, The North Carolina Blueberry Festival, Pender County Public Library, and the Pender Historical Society for helping put this together.

Pender County Courthouse
The courthouse is one of the most attractive historical buildings in Burgaw. Built on November 6, 1936, this three-story structure was designed with several unique features by William Henley Dietrick. The brick-veneered H-shaped structure holds a mixture of Georgian Revival and Colonial Revival architecture features. The building is historically known for its architecture and engineering design. The courthouse was renovated in 1989 by Wilmington Architect, John Sawyer. Take a scroll under the 100-year-old oak trees on the courthouse square and notice the distinctive architectural features of the unique building.

Preserving the history of Pender through documents, artifacts, photos, and a genealogy collection.'The house contains the Mattie Bloodworth Room, a collection of WWII Veterans remembrances, several family bibles, civil war information, clothes from the 19th century, old medical equipment and many other artifacts from years gone by. Penderlea Homestead Museum
The Penderlea Homestead Museum is housed in one of the first homesteads built-in 1936 by the Department of the Interior on Penderlea Homestead Farms, a resettlement community in Pender County developed under Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Museum sponsored efforts resulted in the listing of Penderlea Homestead Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places 9-27-13. Poplar Grove Plantation
With Southern Charm, Poplar Grove Plantation was once the largest peanut plantation in NC. It offers tours of the Manor House museum as well as the grounds and outbuildings. Revolution
Various areas of Pender County are being used for the NBC TV series "Revolution" in July and August of 2012. Secret Life of Bees
The small town of Watha in Pender County was the filming location for the movie "Secret Life of Bees" during 2008. Stars Include Queen Latifa as August, Dakota Fanning as Lily, Jennifer Hudson as Rosaleen, Alicia Keys as June and Sophie Okonedo as May. The main setting was an old farmhouse in Watha which was painted bright pink just for filming. The movie is based on the book by Sue Monk Kidd and is set in 1964. During the summer of 2013, Sleepy Hollow was filmed in Currie, NC on Morgan Road. The Fox TV series is based on the 1820 short story 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' by Washington Irving. Surf City's Welcome and Visitor Center
The Surf City Welcome Center has been home to the Town's tourism office since mid-2008 and continues to greet visitors to the commercial center of Topsail Island. The main portion of the building, The Surfside Center, is offered for lease to both visitors and islanders as a gathering space for meetings, reunions, weddings, private parties, bridal and baby showers, birthdays and anniversaries, off-site retreats for business and virtually any social or business function imaginable. Approximately 1,800 square feet of space is available, as is a prep kitchen, a 650 square foot outdoor deck, and parking for approximately 35 automobiles. In 2011, the Town added a crossover to the beach for the sole use of those renting the facility. Both the building and the adjacent beach are handicap accessible. The room accommodates 110 guests seated at tables, and 265 guests seated classroom or auditorium style.

The Conjuring
The Conjuring, directed by James Wan is a supernatural horror film based on a true story. The film is based on the hauntings which occurred in the Perron home in the early 1970's. The story is told by Ed Lorraine Warren. The film stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as Ed and Lorraine Warren. They play the part of paranormal researchers who conducted an investigation in an old farmhouse owned by the Perron family (Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor), who were experiencing disturbing events in their old farmhouse. Roger and Carolyn Perron bought their dream home in the winter of 1970. They were excited to be living in a home full of history where eight generations lived and died and looking forward to raising their family there. Little did they know the horrors that came with the house. Two former residents had hung themselves at the house and more than two dozen mysterious and tragic deaths occurred on the property. Soon after they moved in the spirits began to make their presence known.
