BURGAW- There aren’t too many locations in the nation where beautiful beaches and bountiful blueberries are in abundance. On June 16-17, visitors to Pender County can experience plenty of both.
“The NC Blueberry Festival features live music, BBQ, a 5K Run/Walk, a Shag contest, craft and food vendors, activities for children, and of course, blueberry vendors,” said Olivia Dawson, coordinator of the NC Blueberry Festival.
The festival starts June 16, at 5 p.m. on the courthouse square in historic Burgaw. The all-day entertainment continues June 17 from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. with the Band of Oz, Bryan Mayer, and Ken Knox & Co.
“Bring your beach chairs to the courthouse square and enjoy the music, dancing, and of course all things blueberry,” said Dawson.
“You’ll also need those beach chairs for a relaxing day on Topsail Island,” said Tammy Proctor, the director of tourism.
“The NC Blueberry Festival is just a few miles from the beaches of Surf City and Topsail Beach,” said Proctor.
“There’s so much to do in Pender County,” said Dawson. “The NC Blueberry Festival is an annual festival which attracts visitors from South Carolina, Virginia, and across North Carolina. When visitors arrive they are delighted at the variety Pender County offers.”
The variety of attractions in Pender County include the award winning Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, Moores Creek National Battlefield, and the Missiles and More Museum, just to name a few.
“There’s so much to do: jet ski tours, boat charters with East Coast Sports, cruise on the Belle of Topsail, paddleboard, or surf,” said Proctor. “We have unique shops and boutiques in both Burgaw and Topsail Island. Our selection of restaurants include oceanfront dining, sunset dining on the Atlantic Intracoastal, and good home-cooking inland.”
“With both beaches and blueberries, we think Pender County offers the perfect surf and turf combination for a weekend get-away for the whole family,” said Dawson.
