FARM TO ISLAND MARKET OPENS IN SURF CITY, NC
Owners of Sugar Island Bakery & Supplies Open North Carolina Local and Organic Market
on Topsail Island
Surf City, NC (February 12, 2018): Farm to Island Market, a family-owned grocery focused on feeding the community with fresh, local products hand-selected from North Carolina farms, has opened its doors at 330 New River Drive in Surf City. The market was formerly known as Sisters Organic; it has been revamped under new ownership, with a new name.
Owners Sam and Shawn Smith are driven to support local farms and supply the island with the freshest, most responsibly raised and grown foods available, all at affordable prices.
“We’re lucky to be surrounded by so many North Carolina farms providing high-quality produce and meats, grown and raised by folks we know. We’re excited to share this bounty with our community,” says Sam.
Farm to Island offers local meats and smoked seafood, local cheeses and charcuterie, grocery items, including farm-fresh eggs and local honey, fresh breads and baked goods, ice cream from Wilmington’s Boombalatti’s, Panacea Brewing Company’s kombucha, organic pet food, indigenous and heirloom plants, locally grown flowers, organic North Carolina soils, and fresh produce and culinary herbs from local farms, including the Smiths’ own microfarm. A selection of organic, artisanal wines will be coming soon. On-island grocery delivery is available.
“In order to ensure that the selection is always incredibly fresh, we’ll keep the market small,” says Sam.
Farm to Island’s “CCSA” (Customized Community Supported Agriculture) allows shoppers to customize their CSA, ensuring they get preferred seasonal products in a manageable size, eliminating food waste.
In addition, Farm to Island features grab-and-go lunch items, premade healthy casseroles, and soups and stews for easy-to-make meals, taking into consideration a variety of dietary restrictions and preferences.
An on-staff nutritionist is available as a resource to shoppers. Beauty and health products, including soaps, candles, healing crystals, and homeopathic healing cures, are heavily sourced from local vendors.
The on-site coffee bar serves coffee roasted in-house, as well as a selection of roasters between Pender County, New Hanover County, and Raleigh. Indoor and outdoor dining tables and an events schedule featuring tastings and classes ensure that Farm to Island will be a fun gathering space for the community.
Sam and Shawn also own and operate Sugar Island Bakery & Supplies , located on Topsail Island. Sugar Island offers all-natural baked goods and is a commercial wholesaler to many retail establishments, restaurants, and coffee houses.
