Currie, NC- In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Moores Creek National Battlefield will not be able to host the annual Anniversary Program this year. However, the park will hold a "virtual" Anniversary event beginning at 10 am. on Saturday February 27 and continuing through Sunday February 28, via Facebook Live, on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/moorescreeknps) as well as on our other social media outlets, including Twitter (twitter.com/moorescreeknps), Instagram (@moorescreek_nps), and our YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRyckhSy0fgvxwBGH74AA1w). .
The decision to cancel the in-person Anniversary event was not an easy one. There is no higher priority than the safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff. Even though the traditional anniversary will not be able to be held, many of the same events you have seen in years past will be available for viewing. These will include the battle commemoration, tours of the battlefield, and other programs that will be announced at a later date.
The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and is using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis. Based on guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, park areas, such as the picnic shelter, recreational trails, and comfort station restrooms are open, while the Moores Creek National Battlefield Visitor Center is open with a 50% capacity.
A return to full operations will continue to be phased, and services may be limited for some time. For more information, please visit the park’s website.
