“The annual Blueberry Drop has enjoyed tremendous success in the last few years due to the hard work of our committee,” said Cody Suggs, Burgaw Parks, and Recreation director. “Last year was our biggest crowd with the fireworks display, and we look to continue that success this year”
At the heart of the evening’s festivities is the ceremonial drop of the glowing, giant blueberry, that will take place at 7 pm EST, midnight Greenwich Mean Time, ringing in the new year with fireworks to follow. This year's fireworks display is being corporately sponsored by Blaze Heating, Cooling, Electrical, and Plumbing. The fireworks can be enjoyed from the event area or designated parking areas throughout Town. Information on parking areas can be found on the town’s website. Fireworks will be provided by Wetzel Pyrotechnics, from Moyock, NC
This year the New Year’s Eve Blueberry Drop will be live and in-person in Historic Downtown Burgaw. The celebration begins at 5:00 and will conclude at 7:30 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by Bourbon Sons, a country band from Charlotte, NC. Spectators are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. The Blueberry Drop committee strongly encourages no outside coolers, no pets, and no alcohol.
Food vendors will offer a variety of selections. Vendors include Lanes Ferry Food Truck, Southern Roots, Chris’s Cosmic Cheesecakes, J&T Funnel Cakes, Flattop Grill, Webos, KT’s BBQ, Big Ralphs Street Eats, and Tasty Tees. The Burgaw Lions Club will also be selling hot chocolate at the event. A video game bus will also be present for the kids to enjoy.
“The Blueberry Drop has become a staple celebration in Pender County, drawing families, visitors, and residents together to celebrate what makes our community special,” said Olivia Dawson, Mayor and Pender County Tourism Director. “We are excited to host this festive tradition once again and invite everyone to experience the joy and excitement of ringing in the new year with us.”
