Samuel Art Williams was an American playwright, screenwriter, television producer, and actor on stage, television, and film.
“Born and raised in Burgaw, Samm-Art Williams graduated from C.F. Pope High School in 1964. He later earned a degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore. His impressive career took him to stages and screens nationwide, yet he remained deeply connected to his roots in rural Pender County,” the library stated in a press release.
Samm-Art Williams worked on dozens of episodes for shows including “Martin” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air “. His theatre comedy Home was nominated for a Tony Award. The play was revived in June 2024, shortly after his passing on May 13, 2024.
The exhibit will be open throughout February, inviting everyone to celebrate his remarkable contributions to the arts.
After February, the exhibit will go to the Pender County Museum to be on display through April 30.
